Historic LGBT bar Stonewall Inn is granted landmark status
In a move marked "well it’s about time", New York City’s landmarks commission has decided to grant iconic Greenwich Village gay bar, Stonewall Inn landmark status.
The unanimous vote on Tuesday is historic not only in context for what it stands for (the bar is the site of the Stonewall Riots, an event where patrons fought against police officers sparking the gay rights movement), but also for being the first site in the city to be honored because of its importance in LBGT history.
Alright, New York!
