Mentally ill victims of deadly police shootings
This year in the US, police have shot and killed 123 people in the midst of a mental or emotional crises. Many officers lack training in how to approach mentally unstable people and as a result, shoot and kill people who may not be able to comprehend officers' orders. In the first six months of this year, police shot and killed someone who was in a mental crisis every 36 hours on average.
