LeBron James will pay for over 1,000 young people's higher education
NBA Player LeBron James announced this week that he will be providing full-ride college tuition to over 1,100 kids at the University of Akron in Ohio.
The LeBron James Family Foundation has been helping out kids from third to seventh grade. If students meet the requirements, the foundation promises to provide full tuition coverage, which amounts to $9,500 for a year of tuition.
"I think it's probably one of the best things I've ever been a part of, this is very special to me," says James. "As a kid growing up in the inner city and as an African American kid, you don't really think past high school because it's not possible or your family can't support you. For us to be able to do something like this ... it means so much."
Facts about LeBron James:
The total cost of four years of tuition for 1,100 kids would be $41.8 million, or two seasons of Lebron's pay with the Cavaliers.
