Harriette Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina, a 92-year-old cancer survivor became the oldest woman to finish a marathon when she crossed the finish line at Sunday’s Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego. Thompson finished her 16th Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon in 7 hours, 24 minutes and 36 seconds.

Previously the oldest woman to complete a marathon was Gladys Burrill, who was 92 years and 19 days old when she entered the 2010 Honolulu Marathon. Thompson is 92 years and 65 days, according to race organizers.

She matched her finish time last year, which was 7 hours, 7 minutes and 42 seconds, breaking the last record that a 90+ woman had set by more than an hour and a half. Thompson started running marathons in her 70s, and credits mentally playing old piano pieces she had played at Carnegie Hall to get her through the 26 miles and 385 yards of the marathon.
