Uber France executives taken into custody for running an "illegal taxi operation"
Uber France CEO Thibaud Simphal and Uber Europe GM Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty were taken into custody in Paris today after police began investigating Uber in November 2014. The executives are being charged with allegedly running an illegal taxi operation and with allegedly concealing digital documents.
The arrests weren't officially associated with the violent protests that occurred last Thursday - when taxi drivers damaged 70 cars and demanded that Uber's cheapest service, UberPOP be shut down - though it is possible that police may have sped up their investigation as a result of the demonstrations.
