Ai Weiwei has four shows in Beijing after China lifts exhibition ban
After an exhibition ban lasting four years, dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has four solo shows in Beijing this summer. The artist was arrested in 2011 after being outspoken (on social media, and through his art) about internet freedom in China and the death of 5,205 schoolchildren in the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.
Though he was released after 81 days, Ai has not been able to leave the country, his name is not allowed in the media or on the internet, and his work was banned from being shown in China - until now.
His show entitled Ai Weiwei is held jointly at Galleria Continua and Tang Contemporary Art. His other shows are AB Blood Type at Magician Space and Tiger, Tiger, Tiger at Chambers Fine Art.
