"Until death do us part" may no longer apply to marital vows now that Dutch designer Mark Sturkenboom has created 21 Grams, a sex toy that doubles as a cremation urn.

With the deceased’s ashes held in a small gold chamber visible within a hollow glass dildo encasement, Sturkenboom hopes to help widows through the grieving process by providing them with a way to continue experiencing a certain intimacy with their dearly departed beloveds. While perhaps macabre, the invention does bring a fascinating new definition to the French idiom “la petite mort.”

Named for the pseudoscientific belief that the soul weighs 21 grams, the sex toy is part of an elaborate foldout keepsake box that relies on sense memory to help manifest the lover’s spectral presence.

A small perfume bottle holds a favorite scent, while a drawer provides space to keep sentimental pieces close. The box additionally contains an iPod dock, so that a favorite song (or perhaps even a voice recording) can be played during a session of bedroom necromancy. All of this is held safe by a one-of-a-kind gold key, so that memories remain intimately kept by the widow alone.
