Design touches every element of our life, indoors and outdoors, on our person and in our surroundings—and the summer provides debuts like none other. There's no better time to explore design fairs or hop from fashion showcases to cultural gatherings. Here is an international selection of expos, fairs and events happening this summer.
Now – October 31
Varios locations (Milan)
While the artworld may be focusing on this year’s acclaimed Venice Biennale, Milan’s World Exposition offers such a grand presentation of both art and design from across the globe that it’s a hands-down must see. A series of pavilion’s each pack-in innovative works hailing from one specific nation. There are living forest replicas and epic metal constructs—all of which take design to the next level.

The AIA New York Center of Architecture (New York)
Celebrating the best of interior design, urban design, architecture and special projects, this exhibition is built around awards across all design pillars and features many of the acclaimed makers of today.
June 13 – June 15
Various locations (London, England)
This bi-annual presentation of top menswear designers never fails to impress the sartorial minded. Hosted across multiple venues, each show tends to epitomize the cruz of traditional attire and modern influence.
June 17 – June 22
Hall 1 Süd, Messe Basel, Messeplatz (Basel, Switzerland)
This little cousin of Art Basel, taking place directly across the Messeplatz in Basel, Switzerland carries both the most advanced, innovative developments in product and furniture design as well as storied classics. This is the epitome of a design fair and it draws thousands of visitors from around the world.

Cooper Hewitt Museum (New York)
Some of the most fascinating textile design drawn from across multiple countries in Africa will by unveiled this summer at the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum. And on top of that, they've all been hand selected by star architect David Adjaye.
Watchcase (Sag Harbor, NY)
This annual affair in NYC's most popular getaway destination delivers the best of interior design from local designers. The location, yet to be announced—though last year was held in the famed Watchcase building—will play host to many design events all summer long. And to top it off, proceeds from the event benefit charity.

Cité de la Mode (Paris), Basketball City (New York)
Outside of Fashion Week, there's no better place to spy the latest in apparel and accessories than Capsule. This summer will host two iterations of the event, one in Paris and one in New York. Each is guaranteed to deliver innovative designs by emerging designers.

Brandenburg Gate (Berlin)
As a city often talked about as the most cutting edge, Berlin has garnered much attention for their Fashion Week. It’s a plethora of both emerging designers, time-tested brands and everything that falls in between.

Various locations (Miami Beach)
Perhaps the most glamorous display of resort ware and swim attire, Miami’s annual affair is as much fun as it is informative.

École Couture Parisienne (Paris)
Gaining the fashion world's collective awe, there's perhaps no better display of the extreme vision of the fashion industry than this highly exclusive annual affair. Invitations are limited, of course, but the internet will definitely be present.
August 15 – August 19
Javits Center (New York)
If one feels up to braving NYC's Jacob Javitz center, NYNOW contains the broadest array of design work in the city over the summer. From an entire division focused only on the handmade to larger lifestyle brands displaying their best ofs, it is crowded but powerful.
September 4 – September 7
Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center (Paris)
Entering its 20th season, Paris' annual showcase of design has long held the most prestige. From ceramics to textiles, lighting design and beyond, the best of European design vision comes to light.
September 9 – September 12
Shanghai World Exhibition Center (Shanghai)
Held across Shanghai's two most magnificent convention centers, the China International Furniture Expo represents the grandest presentation of ever-advancing Chinese design. Furniture takes the centerfold, but there's far more to see across the expansive showcase.
