This Nairobi artist makes elaborate eyewear out of e-trash
The trash produced by electronic devices is some of the most toxic and dangerous garbage out there. Computer parts are expensive to recycle, and many end up illegally dumped in places like Agbogbloshie, Ghana. On the other side of Africa, Nairobi artist Cyrus Kabiru uses this pervasive garbage to create elaborate and bizarre eyeglasses, made from trash like cassette tapes and old motherboards.
His sculptural creations look like something out of a '80s sci-fi film or the latest Mad Max movie. "I really like trash," Kabiru says in a video by Al Jazeera. "I try to give trash a second chance."
