Yesterday, developer David Winer spotted a new format for Facebook's old Notes section, which has been largely inactive for years. Facebook appears to be testing a Notes format that resembles the blogging platform Medium, as can be seen in the post screenshotted below.

As The Verge points out, the new format includes a wide cover image and a clean layout, similar to blogging platform Medium. A Facebook representative told The Verge, "We’re testing an update to Notes to make it easier for people to create and read longer-form stories on Facebook."

This new project is most likely a way for Facebook to encourage users to choose their site as a place for personal blogging, over sites like Medium or Tumblr. Facebook has also made waves in the publishing world recently by partnering with publications like Buzzfeed and The New York Times to deliver their content via Facebook, allowing faster loading times for articles.
