According to Dr. Simon Singh, author of the new book The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets, Homer Simpson anticipated the Higgs boson, or the "God" particle, 14 years before it was discovered.

In the episode "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace", Homer becomes an inventor and writes an equation on a chalkboard.

Singh says,"If you work it out, you get the mass of a Higgs boson that’s only a bit larger than the nano-mass of a Higgs boson actually is."

Singh notes that a lot of the writers on the Simpsons are mathematicians.

Even more intriguing is the fact that the episode was written by John Swartzwelder, known as a reclusive genius and a streak of greatest-ever Simpsons episodes. In addition to writing almost 60 episodes of The Simpsons, he's authored books themed by time travel, science fiction, and mysteries.
