Marco J. Ramirez, the co-showrunner of Netflix’s Daredevil series will be penning a new adaptation of Akira for Warner Bros. Also attached to the project is Andrew Lazar (of American Sniper) and Leonardo Dicaprio’s production house Appian Way.

We wouldn’t get too excited however since the studio has been trying (and failing) since it acquired the rights in 2008. The closest we’ve gotten to a live action adaptation of the Japanese manga was in 2012, when names like Ken Watanabe, Kristen Stewart and Helena Bonham Carter were attached to the project.  This was later sunk due to issues with cast, budget and script issues.

However we remain hopeful about our odds for seeing a faithful adaption of post-nuclear Neo-Tokyo, Japanese biker gangs, and deliquent teenagers with psychi abiltites. We just pray that the casting is on point. The sound leaving our body is "Akiraaaaaa!"
