We don't need to know Japanese to know we're watching Attack on Titan
The latest live action trailer for Attack on Titan premiered on Japanese television today. The film, based on the Japanese manga of the same name that was written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, is a retro-futurist dystopia where humanity has shelled itself off from the Titans, literal giants, which terrorize and eat the humans inside without any remorse or reason.
You'll have to forgive us for not being really familiar with the original source material or with conversational Japanese, but from what we can tell it looks pretty awesome. The guys over at Kotaku? Well, they feel differently.
Attack on Titan will arrive in Japan on August 1, and its sequel Attack on Titan: End of the World will be slated for release on September 19. No word when it will hit worldwide distribution. Both films will be directed by Japanese Academy Award nominee Shinji Higuchi.
