Break out the champagne and cigarettes, there's going to be an Ab Fab movie!
Jennifer Saunders, creator and co-star of the cult TV show Absolutely Fabulous confirmed that not only will characters Eddy (Saunders) and Patsy (co-star Joanna Lumley) be back, but they’ll be showcased in a movie that will start filming this year. Saunders spoke to Brit talk show Loose Women about the upcoming film.
There is a plot [for the movie] and that’s the miracle. It involves all the main characters and virtually everyone that’s ever been in the series, all those characters and we’re in London and sometimes we might go to the South of France, I’m hoping. I’m waiting for the budget. It could be anywhere — if it’s a big budget it will be the Bahamas.
The show follows Edina Monsoon (Saunders), a drug-abusing PR agent with a predilection for heavy drinking and chasing fads in order to remain young and “hip.” With her is her best friend and enabler Patsy Stone, a magazine editor and former model whose own drug use and promiscuity eclipses Edina’s. Edina’s daughter, Saffron serves as the bitter voice of reason.
The original run of the BBC series first aired from 1992 to 1995, where it then had a two-part finale in 1996. It was briefly brought back in 2001 where it ran to 2004, and once again in 2011 and 2012 for three TV specials and the London Summer Olympics.
Why'd it take us so long? Well, we have Dawn French, Saunder's writing partner, to thank. French challenged the Saunders to a bet that if she couldn't deliver a screenplay, Saunders would owe her 10,000 pounds.
