Yesterday, the first trailer was released for Stonewall, a fictional interpretation of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which launched the Gay Rights movement in America, directed by Roland Emmerich.

Now, a petition started by transgender activist Pat Cordova-Goff asks people to boycott the movie, which she calls "a film that erases our history".

There is controversy over the history of the Stonewall Riots, which some argue were ignited by trans women of color who have subsequently been ignored and excluded from retellings of the story.

Cordova-Goff writes, "It is time that black and brown transwomyn and drag queens are recognized for their efforts in the riots throughout the nation." Her petition currently has over 500 signatures.
