Water sounds increase productivity, but we listen to these songs instead
Researchers tested the productivity of workers in open-plan offices while listening to different types of sounds. The ambient noises of coworkers typing frantically and muttering to themselves were drowned out by three different soundtracks: white noise, nature sounds, and nothing. The study showed that employees preferred the sound of flowing water, and were more likely to regain focus quickly when subject to the imaginary river.
In the Hopes&Fears open-plan office, we don't listen to flowing water (which we imagine would encourage frequent urination), but here are some things we do like to listen to while we work.
