John Oliver takes on America's shameful sex ed standards
On his program Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver took on the controversial topic of sex education in US public schools. As he pointed out, only 22 states mandate sex ed, and of those, only 19 require the information given to be "medically accurate." The end of the segment featured a montage of famous actors such as Kristen Schaal and Laverne Cox in a parody sex ed video.

Congress just increased the federal funding for abstinence-only sex education from $50 million to $75 million a year.
Only 20 of states mandate sex ed and HIV education.
A 2012 study showed dismal teen pregnancy rates in the US compared to other countries. "U.S. teens are two and a half times as likely to give birth as compared to teens in Canada, around four times as likely as teens in Germany or Norway, and almost 10 times as likely as teens in Switzerland," it said.
