Will Smith is rebooting the Fresh Prince of Bel Air in a contemporary setting
We can add The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to the list of vintage entertainment that's getting revivals and spin-offs and in the coming year, a list that also includes Twin Peaks and Ghost Busters.
Will Smith is reportedly working as the sole producer in the early stages of a present-day version of the hit TV show, which ran from 1990 to 1996.
Smith's company Overbrook Entertainment includes partners James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Caleeb Pinkett as executive producers. The show is expected to have the same culture-clash vibe, but with new faces, reports TVLine.
Facts about the fresh prince of bel-air:
Will Smith originally agreed to star in the television series to generate income to pay back the IRS after his stint as rapper Fresh Prince. He had to pay the IRS 70% of his salary for the first three years.
In 2012, inmates at Guantanamo Bay watched the Fresh Prince more than any other form of entertainment.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett met on the show when she came to audition for a role as his girlfriend. She didn't get the part, but they remained in contact and later married.
