Here's the last Metal Gear Solid trailer that Hideo Kojima, the series' creator, will ever debut. It was announced this spring that Kojima will be leaving Konami, the publishers of the franchise and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be his final game with the company. Kojima holds the rare distinction of being considered a video game auteur and there's uncertainty whether the series will be able to continue at all without him.

Reviews from early previews of MGS5 have been pretty stellar across the board. From the look of the new trailer, here's the bad news: the seemingly improved voiceover acting from Ground Zeroes is gone and it's back to being weird and terrible. Here's the good news: the whole thing is really weird and just the right kind of terrible much like the old games. For instance, take this line of dialogue: "He said the greatest symbiotic parasite the world has ever known isn't microbial, it's linguistic. Words are what keep civilization, our world, alive. Free the world, not by taking men's lives but by taking their tongues." That's some patented Kojima nonsense right there -- sounds profound, but also like a mad man's late night, cough-syrup overdosed ramblings.

MGS5 hits shelves September 1st.
