The April 25 earthquake in Nepal that killed over 8,000 people is also responsible for moving Mount Everest over by three centimeters. The world's highest peak is now a little bit more southwest than it used to be, though it's height has remained the same.

Chinese state media had been monitoring the movement of the mountain since 2005, which had been growing by 0.3 centimeters per year, and had been moving to the northeast at a speed of 4 centimeters per year. The earthquake reversed the mountain's direction.
