Stop kissing your chickens, you're causing salmonella outbreaks
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is blaming the recent salmonella outbreak on overly affectionate backyard chicken owners. In other words, people with chicken coops in their backyards kissed their chickens too much, and now we have an outbreak of salmonella.
Over 180 people have gotten salmonella in the US from contact with backyard birds. Thirty-three of them required hospitalization.
Megin Nichols, a veterinarian with the CDC says, "we do not recommend snuggling or kissing the birds or touching them to your mouth because that is certainly one way people become infected with salmonella."
Stop kissing your chickens. We know it's hard. Just don't. Like, you really need to not. Please and thanks.
