Science proves that eating pears will prevent hangovers
Great news for booze lovers: scientists have discovered an unlikely natural hangover cure that actually works. Australian science agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), learned that pears can decrease hangover symptoms.
Consuming pears, in particular, Korean pear juice, before drinking, "significantly reduced" hangover symptoms compared to a placebo drink. The most significant result was an increased ability to concentrate.
The pears affect the metabolization of alcohol by the body, enabling the body to process alcohol faster, even preventing some alcohol from being absorbed at all. "In particular, reductions were seen in blood acetaldehyde levels, the toxic metabolic thought to be responsible for hangover symptoms,” said lead researcher Professor Manny Noakes.
More studies are needed to solidify the finding, but we'd suggest thinking of some pear juice cocktail recipes, just in case.
