Physicist Stephen Hawking is conducting an AMA on Reddit where he will answer questions from the public on his Nokia-sponsored project Make Tech Human. Hawking is concerned about the future of artificial intelligence, which he believes could wipe out humanity if certain steps aren't taken to make the technology safer.

Unlike most AMAs, Hawking is not answering questions live, probably because his ALS makes it difficult for him to respond quickly. Instead, he is soliciting questions today which he will answer over the next several weeks.

Facts about stephen hawking and ai:

In December, Hawking said of AI: "It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete, and would be superseded."

Hawking and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have both signed a letter asking for a ban on autonomous military robots.
