Delaware is the latest state to have passed laws decriminalizing the personal use and possession of marijuana. Individuals in the state will be able to possess up to an ounce of the “herb” and will have face less stringent penalties when caught using it in public place. Delaware citizens will now a $100 fine instead of being charged with a misdemeanor, possible jail time and a maximum fine of $1,150.

The law will take effect in six months. Delaware governor Jack Markell was able to sign and clear the bill without any Republican backing whatsoever. This bill makes Delaware the 18th state to pass decriminalizing laws regarding cannabis, however it is still classified as an illegal narcotic under federal law.
