SoundCloud has signed a deal with Merlin, a distributor for indie labels. This will allow artists to make money whenever their music is uploaded on the site by them or by an unauthorized party, through shared ad revenue.

Merlin represents labels such as Beggar's Group, Warp Records, and Domino. These labels and their artists will be added to a new feature on the site, a subscription service, which will launch later this year.

Larger record companies like Sony actually removed their music from SoundCloud, claiming that the site didn't give them enough profit. The major music streaming site is still in talks with Universal and Warner to cut a similar deal as with Merlin.
