The Death Master File is a list of corpses. It's the official list of dead people in the US, and-theoretically-includes every US citizen who has died since 1936, when Social Security numbers were first issued. As with any giant database controlled by a bureaucracy, it has issues. Journalist Paul Ford discusses some of these issues in the New Republic's "The Final File."
