number of new AIDS infections every hour worldwide
Today is World AIDS Day, a day meant to honor those who've lost their lives to the deadly virus. The disease is still a serious problem, with 36.9 million people around the world infected, according to the UN. It's estimated that the virus has killed 35 million worldwide since it was discovered in 1984. However, the rate of infection continues to drop, by 35% since 2001 alone.
