number of prisoners released early in Washington due to a software glitch
Due to a miscalculation of sentence reduction by a prison software, at least 3,200 former inmates have been mistakenly released based on a good behavior program that was started in 2002. The governor of Washington state says that he doesn't know how a known software bug went unremedied since 2012. He also stated that many inmates will have to return to jail to finish their sentences. An update should be in place by January 7th and an investigation has begun to determine why the bug wasn't fixed sooner.
