number of new elements that have just been added to the periodic table
Four new elements have been added to the periodic table, according to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. With the addition of elements 113, 115, 117 and 118, the seventh period of the periodic table of the elements is now considered complete.
The discoveries were made by researchers from the United States, Japan and Russia. Official verification occured on December 30th and the elements have yet to be named.
The last additions occurred almost five years ago with the inclusions of elements 114 (flerovium, or Fl) and element 116 (livermorium or Lv).
