Muslim non-profit coalition raised $20,000 to rebuild black churches
In response to the eight black churches across the country that were burned down following the deadly Charleston shooting on June 17, a group of Muslim non-profits have started a campaign to raise money to rebuild them.
The campaign, launched on July 2, is a collaborative effort between MuslimARC, the Arab-American Association of New York, and Ummah Wide. So far the initiative Respond with Love has raised over $24,000.
In a statement released through the project, it is clear that places of worship should be treated with respect. The campaign's website says, “We want for others what we want for ourselves: the right to worship without intimidation, the right to safety, and the right to property."
The campaign will continue until July 18, and the proceeds will go to help members of the church communities rebuild.
