Disney's robotic animatronics designer dies at 97
Blaine Gibson, the designer behind the robotic statues at the Disney parks, has passed away at 97 years old.
Gibson designed animatronics for Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, as well as the iconic statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse holding hands.
In 1939, Gibson started working with Disney as a assistant animator. He rose to become the head of the team's sculpture department in 1961 when the parks opened.
